An extrapolation upon the Red Order
By: Frater Ut Vinceret
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
Part 1: Background and General Information
Hello and greetings, as you can see above I’m Frater Ut Vinceret, although I go by other aliases like Thelema696 as well. I’m here to explain to you what exactly the Red Order is and why you may find adding it’s practices into your life a good idea. Let’s start with some background.
The idea for the Red Order took seed relatively young in my life. Like many of you I grew up on a healthy diet of modern media, ancient mythology, stories and history. I loved watching the soldiers fight on tv, loved seeing heroes catch “the bad guys”. At night I would sit with my mother (a military nurse) and we’d watch television. On the History Channel I could watch Hitler’s rise to power and the holocaust, the genocide of the Khmer Rouge, Jim Crow laws and the Apartheid. History was filled with conflict, anyone could see that. It almost seemed to follow a pattern.
Besides History I also became very interested in animals and found myself watching and reading everything I could get my hands on. From packs of wolves, to lions, ants, birds, elephants etcetera they all seemed (like history) to follow a pattern. The “strong” ruled the weak. Wolves would pick the weakest member and enjoy group bullying, Lion’s would always go for the weakest gazelle, Baboons would keep harems of females and kill upstart males by biting into their skulls. This brutal method of “It’s mine because I can take it.” was echoed throughout our world and history.
As I grew older I kept these lessons in mind and upon reaching puberty I became increasingly interested in studying world culture. With study I could see once again echoed around the world, “The strong dominate the weak”. It’s one of those facts we all invariably know, but you don’t truly “know” until you’ve seen it.
Moving past all that though we need to consider, who is usually “the weak” in these situations? Minority groups, intellectuals, minority religions, people with alternative sexualities and more than any other group: women.
----------
These groups more than most lack the social status, physical clout or martial culture to strengthen themselves against domination, death, enslavement or abject abuse. In minority groups that have kept some form of martial culture we see however an ability resist and to continue existing (see the Sikhs for a good example). Allow me to give you some examples.
Women: The established hierarchy does not like the idea of minority groups becoming part of the strong. We can see in culture and history that women are usually pushed away from any sort of physical or psychologically empowering pursuit. Many parts of the world like to create women who are weak, soft and compliant (chiefly by keeping them ignorant and in fear). Because of that, from birth, women are psychologically conditioned to act in this manner while men are taught (very often) to act in the opposite manner. Some of this plays into our biological natures with men having naturally more muscle/testosterone and women having the opposite.
In the new aeon however, what do we see? A push to bring women and men into a point of unity and harmony. “Let the women be girt with a sword before me.” L. Al III 11. We see here that women should become capable of martial pursuits. Firearms and tools have democratized combat. A man may still have a distinct advantage during bouts of strength, but in a world of sharp knives and handguns that advantage is patently voided. By “claiming the blade” the women is emancipated and put on equal footing with her male counterpart.
Racial Minorities: I don’t think we need to look hard to see this echoed throughout the worlds culture. If you’re not part of the dominant tribe you are relegated to a lower status.
Intellectuals: The Khmer Rouge waged a systematic campaign of genocide to remove the bourgeois elements and to re-write history. A prime target for this were the people that “knew too much”. This idea of knowledge being dangerous to the tyrant is an old one. From Socrates to Galileo, the Catholic Church to some modern islamic nations. Knowledge is power and knowledge can direct the people away from the world view the leader wants them to have.
Minority religions: I’m sure the first thought in the minds of many is the Holocaust of the Jewish people during WWII. With that we also have other persecutions like the Bengali Genocide which occurred in 1971 where the Islamic majority killed an estimated 2 million Hindu’s and raped an estimated 200,000 to 400,000 of their women. Now, the Hindu’s that still remain within Pakistan are subject to a religious tax, the Jizya, to be allowed to practice their religion.
Alt-Sexualities: The world over has seen the systematic abuse of people for homosexuality, transexuality and non-standard gender norms. In many countries you can still be executed or imprisoned for life for being homosexual. This is done chiefly because the government of said country follows a theocratic system of restrictive moral codes. Even in more open minded western countries we see still the shaming and abuse of these groups.
What then is the link between these groups? Besides being numerically smaller we can see that the majority of these groups either completely lack a martial spirit or are conditioned to ignore it or to rely on others to protect them (a cultural “castration”). The Tyrant or the dominator routinely removes the weaponry of the group and bans the practice of martial training. Once the weaponry is removed the numerological advantage becomes crushing as the Tyrant now controls the “legal” weaponry and the military. Thus we have a people defenseless and at the mercy of others. Their self sovereignty and right to life, love, liberty and light are quietly scooped away and they are made into a modern slave caste. Desired for certain skills or attributes but held firmly in check to the worldview of the controller.
I’m tired of this and I’m sure many of you are as well. We have all the lessons we need to see it could, or will most likely happen again. We have near limitless information thanks to the internet and the tools necessary to overcome biological advantages. “The slaves will serve”, yes but to those who are willing to put in the work and to shake off the shackles society has placed on your heart and mind they will become Masters of themselves. The weak can become strong and the strong stronger. Mutually assured destruction leads to a world of greater respect and ultimately less restriction then we have today. When battles are fought in the debate room more than in the warzone we will know that we have been successful.
In a nutshell
The Red Order is set to be a group of solitary practitioners dedicated to self growth and the fostering of their martial spirits. Red Order members will assist one another in practice and intellectual growth in these subjects (Group training, special events, outside experts). When the time comes they will also be available to initiate lower grade members into higher grades. Eventually the goal is to see this growing acceptance of martial culture spread far and wide throughout Thelemic minded individuals and those that are allied with the ideas presented.
----------
Part 2: Question/Answer
Q: So is this group for Thelemites only?
A: Negative. While the order is very much entrenched in Thelemic beliefs, it is not a closed door. Simply saying the oath and working to protect the “Five L’s” in your own manner is all that is necessary.
This is above all a martial order and does not overly concern itself in spiritual matters (although people are completely free to intermingle their beliefs in their own training if they will to do so). The main goal being the overall emancipation of humanity through the democratization of combat knowledge and experience. If you are interested more in the spiritual practices of Thelema then I encourage you to research the A.’.A.’. or O.T.O. in your own time.
Q: Why not just call the police or rely on the military? We pay them for just such a purpose! I don’t have the time or care to do this sort of thing.
A: The Police force and Military are indeed useful resources when they are nearby and more importantly working for your self interest. This is not always the case. The average response time of a police officer is approximately ten minutes. That is a very, very long amount of time.
To use a more mundane example, imagine in the middle of the night you hear a loud bang downstairs. You call the police and crawl into a corner shakily clutching a ball-bat or whatever useless object Hollywood convinced you would save your life. What are you going to do when the bump in the night ends up being a heavy set man with a handgun who’s here to steal your wealth or harm you? I guess you could roll over and hope that HE is in a merciful mood that day, but I learned to never trust a criminal (they are criminals for gods sake!). Don’t you think a better alternative would be to grab your handgun or rifle, loudly announce “THE POLICE ARE COMING AND I AM ARMED. LEAVE NOW!” before taking a tactically sound firing position -just in case-? Then the police can show up and clear the home for you and earn their paycheck writing you a report and doing some extra patrol.
Remember to those adults with children. Your children -depend on you for everything- and that includes being able to defend them should the time come. Sticking your head in the sand and hoping the big bad wolf never comes huffing at your door is escapist fantasy and will get you and your family murdered if it ever comes to pass.
Alarm systems are great, the police and military are great, big walls and thick doors are great (I am not an enormous man but I can easily kick down any door I’ve come in contact with. Even if you invest in a steel safety door I guess I’ll come through your window then or wait till you come outside to get the mail). But all of them can be voided. All of them can be bypassed and a truly deadset foe can only be stopped by -you- and no one else.
Q: Are you guys part of some political group or anything like that?
A: Negative. While members of the Order may engage in their own political activities, the Order as a whole maintains a state of general neutrality. The head of the order organizes, updates and acts as an arbiter to solve disputes. In the end the choice of the individual will always be their choice. There is no giving orders and making demands outside of official course syllabus. You make it or break it on your own merit.
Q: So are you some sort of paramilitary then?
A: Negative. The Red Order holds no status as a paramilitary, militia or similar. Think of it more as a group of solitary practitioners following their own true wills and lives who meet periodically to help one another train in martial pursuits. Every so often of course there will be larger gathering where information can be exchange, classes taught and outside experts brought in. In the end though, trying to over organize something like this and force people into a paramilitary mindset is hindering and distracts people from following their own goals. Groups like that tend to devolve into mindless bickering, power plays and other games that distract individuals from the development of their own martial spirit. Funneling it instead into the black hole of personal ego. No one in the Order can ever demand or force you to do anything unless you agree to do it.
Q. What’s up with the gun stuff?
A. Firearms are something that have been totemized to the highest degree by the media. Many people are terrified of them, others hate them. Firearms are often blamed for tragedy and as such are restricted, banned or similar. This is a very dangerous mindset to have for a few reasons.
1. In almost all major genocides and other atrocities the predatory participant seeks out a weaker foe. It makes natural sense. Weaker foes are easier to kill, capture or subjugate. Gun bans and heavy restriction upon firearms is one of the tools used by Tyrants to control the populace. “Cutting the hands” off a populace is an excellent way to turn government servants into government overlords. Look to history for more.
2. Banning something does not make it disappear. Look at America’s War on Drugs (Or further back to the prohibition of alcohol). Banning something takes it out of the hands of law abiding people and creates “black markets” that gain massive amounts of illicit income while simultaneously avoiding tariffs and health restrictions. Over time this results in rival groups fighting over the same lucrative market which results in violent crime, extortion, urban blight etcetera (Mexican Cartel Wars & the mass murder spectacles). Murder is already illegal. Making it slightly more difficult for a criminal to murder does not matter to the man or woman ready to commit the crime.
Even in countries with a history of heavy firearm restriction, firearms still exist and murder still happens. Overall it’s been proven that violence and other crimes rise rapidly regardless.
3. What I’m getting at with all of this is that if possible enemies have firearms, we should have them also and know how to use them. Hence why pistol and rifle training form some of the requirements for the highest grades. Hating and disregarding a valuable tool like the firearm because “bad people” use them is a farce. Bad men gutted peasants in the field with swords and defending armies used the same weapon to fight back. Criminals kill innocent people and innocent people use the same weapons to kill criminals. Try as we might to demonize, characterize or totemize the firearm it is, in the end, the will of the one holding it that matters.
Q: What’s the deal with rituals, grades and all that?
A: As one progresses through the grades they will gain marks of their advancement, similar to gaining belts or sashes in traditional martial arts.
Student Grade = No Mark
1st Grade = Red Mark
2nd Grade = Green Mark
3rd Grade = Gold Mark
4th/5th Grade = Red and Gold mark and award of title. (Your “Knighting”)
This is a symbol of your progress and something you can be proud of. The rituals harken back to the Thelemic mindset. The first one was received by Ut Vinceret and works on the theory of invoking the new Aeon using a powerful symbol. Whether you believe in mysticism or not, it is still a powerful psychological tool that I think people will benefit from experimentation with. Do the ritual, or don't, but it will be available. Beyond that students are encouraged to experiment and work together as the urge strikes them but such rituals or practices will never be required for advancement or practice.
Q: What does the Order’s symbol mean?
A: The symbol is a unicursal hexagram (often used as a symbol for Thelema) made from crossed swords. The colors of the blades represent the Thelemic use of a downward, red triangle and an upward blue triangle. The center symbol is a Triskelion, a celtic symbol. “hidden” in the Triskelion is 666 a nod to Mr. Crowley who loved the number along with 696 which holds the gematria for “All men are created equal”
Love is the law, love under will.
